OUR SERVICES

ISBN & Barcode

Kirk House Publishers requests the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and generates the barcode. The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a numeric commercial book identifier that is unique.

Publishers purchase or receive ISBNs from an affiliate of the International ISBN Agency.

To assign the number, we need the following information.

  1. Title of the book

  2. Author's name

  3. Retail price of the book (follow the pricing instructions and the expectations and guidelines book.)

The ISBN will be under the Kirk House Publishers Imprint.

Title Listed on the KH Website for Sale

We will sell your title on the Kirk House Publishers Website. Our Kirk House Publisher’s website will feature your book for preorder and sale. Once we receive the front cover design approval, we will list the book for preorder on our Kirk House Publisher’s website. This is the distribution option that nets the author the most money. Check out our Bookstore.

Title listed on Ingram (POD)

We load the paperback and hardcover book to Ingram for print-on-demand distribution and posts your book to other online retailers such as Barnesandnoble.com. Target.com, and Walmart.com

This means that Ingram will print the book, ship the book, and collect the money. Then Ingram pays a royalty back to you.

This does not mean that the Barnes and Noble stores will carry the books. If you want the books to be in the B&N stores, you need to speak with the store managers directly and let them know your book is available to order through Ingram.

LCCN

The Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) is the number associated with the bibliographic record created by the Library of Congress or another library for a given book.

To request the Library of Congress Control Number we need the following information.

  1. Title of the book

  2. Author’s name

  3. ISBN

  4. Book Blurb

  5. Names of any other contributors

The LCCN will carry the Kirk House Publishers Name.

After printing the book, Kirk House Publishers will send one copy to the Library of Congress and one copy to the Library of Congress Copyright Office.

100% Copyright Ownership

Under the copyright law, the creator of the original expression in a work is its author.

The author retains the rights to their book.

Interior Design/Formatting

Why is proper formatting important? The answer is readability: Good formatting improves the readability of a book. Font choices, line spacing, and paragraph alignment contribute to a comfortable reading experience, reducing eyestrain and fatigue.

Formatting also makes information more accessible to the reader by creating and labeling sections (headings), highlighting keywords or ideas (bold, italics, or lists), and making a good impression (professional look and feel, appropriate font choice for the document type).

We will provide the author with our House Style Formatting Guidelines.

Book Listed on Amazon

Paperback listed on Amazon – We will list the book on our Amazon Advantage site, and Kirk House Publishers will fulfill orders from the inventory in our warehouse.

Once the title is available, Amazon will place an order and we will ship the books to Amazon’s Warehouses.

We will list the title on Amazon once we complete the production of the paperback books and have them in our warehouse. Amazon keeps 55% of the retail price of the book.

50% Royalty

The publisher will pay royalties of 50% of net revenues to the author and will report to the author quarterly on sales of the book when royalties due exceed $25.00.

Royalties do not roll over to the next pay period. The publisher will report royalties at the end of the following month. For example, if the quarter ends on September 30, we will report to you by October 31.

Cover Design

We will discuss the front cover design at our first meeting and several meetings thereafter. This is the time for the author to give recommendations and supply artwork, if applicable and owned by the author.

The author will receive three to five PDFs front cover proofs based on the conversations about what the author wants the cover to look like.

We do not accept covers previously designed, but will incorporate design elements the author owns or has written permission to use.

The author will select the one cover they like most, and we will work on it from that point. The author will continue to work with us to achieve the way they want the cover to appear.

Once we finish the front cover, we will start the preorder on our Kirk House website. We will also need the cover blurb (150-200 words) and the author bio (100-150 words).

When the title is available for PREORDER on our website, we will finish the design for the full cover, adding the back cover and spine.

This is an excellent time for the author to market their book. We will provide you with jpg images of book to use for social media marketing.
