KIRK HOUSE PUBLISHERS—IN THE AUTHOR'S CORNER Grandparenting a Child with Autism by Sylvia Miller Gr

Writer: Ann AubitzAnn Aubitz

Grandparenting a Child with Autism: The Joy, Frustration, and Growth of Living with Autism.  This book is directed toward grandparents, extended family members, and friends who sincerely want to become more closely attached to children who are part of the autism puzzle. Aunts, uncles and cousins as well as grandparents search for ways to reach out to children with autism and their overburdened parents. This book stresses the importance of involving them, as well as teachers and social agencies in the never-ending effort to bring the child out of the world of autism and into the family s world. Stories of the author s grandson, Micah, and his family are used to illustrate characteristics common among children with autism. Each illustration is accompanied by a discussion of those attributes and suggested ways for a family to engage.   About the author: Sylvia Miller Grubb and her husband Stuart have been intimately involved in the lives of their grandchildren, including their grandson who is on the autism spectrum.
